Roshni Helpline (NGO) working for the rights of children, women and indigenous communities - organized one day seminar “End Violence against Children” on the occasion of universal children day in collaboration with Ministry of Social Welfare, Govt. of Sindh and UNICEF at Regent Plaza Hotel Karachi. NGOs, civil society, media, lawyers, Govt. Departments, Youths, and Transgender attended the event.
Honorable Minister Social Welfare Department, Women Development and Special Educationl - Ms. RubinaSaadatQaimkhani was the chief guest of the program. Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Mr. Noor Muhammad Laghari, Child Protection Specialist UNICEF Sindh Dr. Jabeen Abbas, Senior Executive Director Mr. Haider Imam Rizvi from BOL TV, Mr. Fazal Noor, Ashoka Foundation USA Country rep, Dr. Aisha Mehnaz founder KONPAL NGO, Mr. Naveed Ahmed Advocate High Court also attended the program as guest and speaker.
Roshni Helpline launch “Child Complaint and Response Center” in Karachi which will address the complaints related to welfare and protection of children in close coordination with Govt. Departments and relevant stakeholders. 24/7 helpline “1138” will work dedicatedly to resolve children complaints in “Child Complaints and Response Center”.
On the occasion, Executive Director Roshni Helpline Mr. Muhammad Ali said “Universal Children day is the special occasion to reconfirm our commitments for the betterment and protection of children. Social Welfare and UNICEF is playing key role for the protection of children. Roshni Helpline is working for the protection of children – especially for the issue of missing and exploited children since 2006. We are committed for safer, happier and prosperous future of our children”.
Ms. RubinaSaadatQaimkhani, Minister Social, Women Development and special education said “Children rights and protection is the duty of all. She appericiated Roshni Helpline’s efforts o organize such a successful event. On the occasion she inaugurated the ‘Child Compliant and Response Center” and further said that Social Welfare Department and Ministry is committed to protect children from violence, abuse and exploitation. Sindh Child Protection act will be launch in next few days. Social Welfare Department in collaboration with Roshni Helpline will further strengthen the services of Child Protection Units to ensure the maximum protection of children. She has also offered Roshni Helpline to use Social Welfare premises and ensure the best interest of children with close coordination of Social Welfare Department“.
Dr. Jabeen Fatima Abbas, Child Protection Specialist, UNICEF Sindh; appreciated the idea of child complaint and response center. She further added – this event is the best example of public private partnership where Roshni Helpline has played the key role. She said most of the violence against children is invisible. “We should pledge on children’s day to make the violence against children visible and uncover the crimes [against them],” she said, while also calling for empowering children to make complaints themselves on helplines.
Muhammad Ali, Executive Director Roshni Helpline appericiated the commitment from Minister of Social Welfare Department and welcome the offer to collaborate for the betterment and Protection of children. At the same time – Roshni Helpline launch its “Child Complaint and Response Center” – which will address the complaints of children about their welfare and protection in strong collaboration with Govt. Departments.
Mr. Fazal Noor, Country rep of Ashoka Foundation USA appreciate Roshni Helpline efforts and also appreciated the idea of child complaint and response center. He has given various examples of international developed countries where child protection is the priority every one.
Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Noor Muhammad Laghari inaugurated “Life Saving SMS alert system” which will be used for the tracking of missing children and dissemination of quick information among public. This system will also be used to register complaints for the rights or protection to children.
At the end of the seminar; Minister RubinaSaafatQaimkhani distributed the awards and certificates among well knows activists, NGOs and staff of Roshni Helpline.
